The Lord is merciful. It's in the Bible, Isaiah 30:18, NIV. "Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; He rises to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for Him!" Psalms 103:13, NIV says, "As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him." Micah 7:18, NIV says, "Who is a God like you, who pardons sins and forgives the transgression of the remnant of His inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy."
In times of disobedience we experience God's mercy. It's in the Bible, Psalm 6:2, NIV. "Be merciful to me, Lord, for I am faint; O Lord, heal me, for my bones are in agony."
The proud do not experience God's mercy. It's in the Bible, Luke 18:13-14, TLB. "But the corrupt tax collector stood at a distance and dared not even lift his eyes to heaven as he prayed, but beat upon his chest in sorrow, exclaiming, 'God, be merciful to me, a sinner.' I tell you, this sinner, not the Pharisee, returned home forgiven! For the proud shall be humbled, but the humble shall be honored."
